The Well-known “CCC” Tour Cistern, Cellar, Crypt and more!

 

 

 

This fascinating tour includes some of Esslingen’s hidden treasures – all underground and requiring special permission and a qualified guide. This tour lasts about two hours and requires navigating several sets of stairs. This is a great tour to celebrate a special event (like a birthday), or when you have out-of-town guests visiting Germany

 • We start at the hidden former water cistern at the Esslingen castle (Burg). What a mysterious place!

 

• Walking into the old town, we show you a well-preserved medieval cellar. Very important in medieval life.

• The former “bone house” ossuary. What was stored here and why?

• The highlight of the tour – the Church Crypt. What secrets were unlocked when this underground excavation revealed the former crypt. Not for the faint hearted!The duration of this walking tour is approximately 120 minutes and and will start and end at the top of the Esslingen castle (accessible with stairs or with the local bus).  The cistern requires sure footedness and is not appropriate for those with claustrophobia. Children under 12 are not allowed on this tour due to City regulations.
