The famous "CCC" -- Cistern, Cellar, Crypt Tour

This fascinating tour allows you to discover Esslingen’s hidden treasures – all underground and requiring special access and a qualified guide. This tour lasts about two hours and requires navigating several sets of stairs. This is a great tour to celebrate a special event (like a birthday), or when you have out-of-town guests visiting Germany

 • We start at the hidden former water cistern at the Esslingen castle (Burg). What a mysterious place!

• Walking into the old town, we show you a well-preserved medieval cellar. Very important in medieval life.

​• The former, “bone house” or ossuary. What was stored here and why?

​• The highlight of the tour – the Church Crypt. What secrets were unlocked when this underground excavation revealed the former crypt? Not for the faint hearted! 

 

The duration of this walking tour is approximately 120 minutes and and will start at the Esslingen castle (accessible from the old town (stairs), car or with the local bus) and end in the old town square. The cistern and crypt require sure footedness and is not appropriate for those with claustrophobia. Children under 12 are not allowed on this tour due to City regulations.
